Hope 2010 has been a great year for everyone, and hopefully, 2011 will be even better!

I think the past year has been exciting for all of us.... A level results release, start of NS and the transformation into a man of steel, successful scholarship, uni apps and beginning of uni life etc. A lot of events happening throughout the year. Some good, some bad. Some expected, some unforeseen. Nonetheless, as I look back at 2010, I'm glad that I've enjoyed most of the year and that certain events had strengthened my character and helped me mature!

Rather happy that we've had quite a number of class outings this year even though we've graduated and dont see one another often. I still rmb playing at Decoders Cafe in the beginning of the year and the guys were botak. And then we met again in HC during results release. Lots of other occasions when we met up: random outing at vivocity, HC awards presentation day, OCS social night, Jian Hua's farewell, Langston's birthday, and many other random badminton, movie outings :D

I certainly hope we can continue to meet up regularly in 2011! It'll be more difficult in 2012 when more ppl study overseas... :p and hopefully, the world doesn't end then.

May the coming new year be full of fun and joy for you all! Have a fruitful and healthy 2011!

Don't ask me why I'm blogging so actively here all of a sudden.

Anyway, today is Hari Raya Haji, and Zhi Hui wants to watch HP VII. So he asked Yuqun along, and in the end, DK, Lang, Joel and me went to watch too :)) And of course BRIDGE after the movie. Nice way to slack on a public hol!!

Been reading the old blog posts, starting from those in 2008. Really amused by the stuff that we wrote back then... and of course, I can't imagine myself writing so much crap 2 years ago. I'm more mature now hahahaha.

Read the crapbooks today too!! Equally amused, even Joel couldn't rmb writing some of the stuff back in JC. Hahaha. Why are there so many chicken drawings in the books anyway?

Yay!! It's so fun to go out with the class, even though I just listen to you guys talk most of the time! :))

Two years ago, on 5th November 2008, we sat for our first A level paper PW.

A year ago, for the entire month of November 2009, we worked very hard to complete the rest of our A levels... Not forgetting the very memorable Bukit Timah flood that occurred on the day of our Physics Paper 2 in the afternoon.

And now, November 2010, some of us have begun our tertiary education and the rest are still serving the nation in the army (ok, one in navy and another in air force :))

2010 is coming to an end, and we've known one another for at least 3 years.

This blog has been dead for quite some time... It's heartening to know that some of you do pop by occasionally to see if there're new posts or updates on the tagboard. But I guess like what Fight mentioned in his post, it requires one to overcome the inertia of creating a new post (OMG, how long have I not touched physics?!) So after hearing some of you guys mention this blog two days ago during Langston's birthday celebration, I've decided to give this blog a new lease of life!! :D Ok, a bit exaggerated.

Perhaps some updates on what we did during Langston's birthday celebration 2 days ago so that 10 years down the road, we'll rmb that 10 years ago, we celebrated Langston's 19th! Attendance on that day: Langston, DK, Fight, Yongquan, Zhihui, Huimin, Joel, me. And we were all waiting for OCT HO JIA JUN who left the house only when everyone's already waiting for him at Vivo, and he arrived 1.5 hr later at 5.30pm when we were supposed to meet at 4pm... Anyway, the choc and nuts cake was really yummy!! Hope Langston, and everyone in 6K, had fun!!

I think it's wonderful that we're still going out together as a class even a year after we've graduated! Even though the outings are not frequent, I'm glad that the turnout is always very decent! And we can still talk on and on and on for a long time despite not seeing one another often (although 80% of the time, we're talking abt NS! I'm still trying to rmb the correct names for 2 and 3 crabs, as well as understand mee pok and mee kia...) One of my M4 seniors was telling me that it's very difficult to meet up with JC friends after the guys complete NS cos most of them will be studying overseas, and usually med students will be very busy with their postings etc. Which I think will happen to our class since most of you will prolly study overseas. Of course, those studying overseas can meet up in London, or some US state, and then we can have a class gathering via Skype. Haha. But moral of the story, it'll be harder to meet up in future, so let's have more gatherings while we can this year and next year!! Perhaps when the President returns to Sg during his Easter and Summer breaks?? :))

So I guess enough said. To my friends studying in the UK and US (and Sg for Huimin), all the best in your studies and keep in touch! To those still completing NS, thanks for keeping Sg safe and secure so that I can sleep well at night and mug safely in sch! Bear with it for a few more months, gonna ORD soon! Continue mugging PCME at home if you can in order to keep your brains functional! :))

Btw, I seriously wonder how many will read this blog post. Anyway, if you do, maybe leave a note on the tagboard or my FB wall. Haha. :D

Nostalgia

It has been quite a while since any one posted on this blog. As a matter of fact, I do pass by every now and then, though merely stealing a glance for new posts and then scooting off.

Right, now on to why I overcame the inertia of creating a new post on this hopefully still semi-active blog. Perhaps it was an after-effect of Awards Presentation Day, that incited sudden pangs of nostalgia within me. I found myself sorely missing the good old' days we had in school...the various projects, lectures, exams...the silly and fun things that we did...and most importantly, 08S6K. It may seem odd that such feelings start to surface after quite a significant time lag of 7 months, close to 8, after we left school, but oh well, I guess that's the way things tend to work. Possibly it could be catalysed by my experiences in recent months of seeing seemingly innocent youths being corrupted and succumbing to negative influences.

Indeed, many things have changed in the past few months - Wei Zhong appears to be much more cheerful and outgoing now, Langston has shed quite a fair bit of weight, and much more could be expected to follow in the next few months as Mui Suan and Hui Min embark on their tertiary education. The good old times we had though will hopefully stay preserved in the collective 08S6K memory.

I may not have cherished moments in the past enough - for that I do feel a slight tinge of regret, but I will definitely cherish the memories of them dearly.

1) CLASS OUTINGS!!!

Outing A: Basketball

Date: 3 December

Where: School basketball court (or anywhere else nearby that has a basketball court)
Time: 9am (and come earlier if possible)

Turn up if possible!!! Especially the PRC scholars!!! We put the outing in school specially for you =)

Outing B: BBQ
Date: 4 December
Where: President's house
Time: 5pm to 10pm

2) A COLD JOKE

Post-A-level entertainment 2

While everyone wows (or boos) at gigaminx, I got yet another new puzzle!!! Bought it at Anchorpoint, there are PLENTY of interesting puzzles there (including monopoly, ticket to ride, cluedo, etc.), maybe we should organize a class outing and raid the stores there =)

Ok, back to the point, I got a new puzzle!!! Targetted it since prelims, but that time I decided not to spend too much yet (haven't offloaded my old megaminx to JJ yet). Yet I'm broke before yesterday (gigaminx cost a bomb), and even more broke now, went out with 4 different colours of Yusof bin Ishak's face in my pocket, and reached home with only coins in my wallet yesterday, sigh...

TA-DAAA!!! I duno it's official name, but for now I'll call it the 4-layer barrel, beats the usual "dodecahedron prism" which is quite a mouthful... And not everyone knows what's a "dodecahedron"... they might know how many sides it has though, if you call it "december-hedron" haha =P

And in case it's not very clear how it turns, you can turn the 4 rings layer by layer, and there's the very interesting / weird / sickening vertical middle cut that you can do to mix pieces from the 1st layer with the 4th and the 2nd with the 3rd.

The objective... er... is to make something nice out of it!!! =) Because there's no fixed colour scheme, and there's probably no parity either (if you solve it my way), you can do anything you like with it! For me the "official" solved state is when all the black plastic pieces are on 1 side and the white plastic on the other, and pieces with same coloured stickers and different coloured plastic are opposite each other =)

Oh, and there're a few more interesting things about it:

1) The middle is a square!!!
2) If you put your finger on the edge and trace it (on the picture)... you get back to the origin!!! So you can also call it a "Mobius twisty puzzle"!!! Haha =)

Oh, before I forget, I actually popped the barrel by accident and broke a piece while trying to fix it back... but thankfully it didn't break at a place where there was a spring, so I managed to use, of all things, double-sided tape and masking tape, to hold it in place, and YAY, it works!!! Lucky I didn't waste $22 in a single moment of folly...

And then, another relatively new (or old) puzzle...

Void cube!!! This came to me from God. I mean, it's holy. You know, umm, I mean, "hole-y", haha =)

And contrary to popular belief, this cube is actually TOUGHER than a normal 3*3*3. Because you can get things like...

Yes, you've guessed it (or you have not), it's PARITY!!! In other words, a cuber's nightmare haha =P Occurs primarily because you do not know the exact positions of where the holes should be. Ok, I'm doing a bad job explaining this. Anyway, many people would say something like "oh shit how did it happen, I didn't even dismantle it" and maybe throw it away or spoil it trying to pop the thing, and then... you waste $13.

And while you guys (and girls) enjoy all this... Hope "post-A-level entertainment 3" comes up soon!!! =)

Lalala... the most active blogger here blogs again (you all should be sick of that mask by now)... Oh well, you all should know by now what I'm going to blog about... Yup, it's my new big toy!!! =)

Well, I'm supposed to be pretty happy. But then nearly everything went wrong with the order, I guess that company ie. "cubeforyou" sucks to the CORE (pun intended)... White becomes black, DIY kit becomes assembled toy, unstickered becomes stickered, unlubricated becomes lubricated... worse still, the stickering was done by machine, which means many stickers were stuck on misaligned... and the stickers were pretty low-class, so when i peeled them off to resticker them, some of them started peeling... see la, 厉害就厉害, 不要假厉害, told them not to sticker it and they didn't listen to me, think they are doing me a favour, now I got to redo so much... oh, i peeled off almost 200 stickers i think... gah... I guess the only thing they got right about my order was that I ordered a gigaminx.

Ok anyway, since A-levels is (virtually) over, and I wanted to find out why it JAMMEDlike CRAP, and curiosity got the better of me... I decided to dismantle the whole thing (which was why I bought it in the 1st place, I wanted the fun of assembling it) ... And since it was a DIY, I could easily pop the centre caps, unscrew it and PULL... then everything came out. YAY =)

PINK core =) Mmm, that's probably one of the very few things I liked about what I ordered from them...

And naturally... the rest of the disassembled gigaminx was a HUGE mess...

Which included 12 core pieces...

And each of their corresponding centre caps...

As well as 30 central edges...

60 wing edges...

60 corner centres...

60 middle centres...

And 20 corners!

Oh, and most importantly, the screws and springs!!! =)

And then I realized to my horror...

The pieces look nearly identical to my 7*7*7 cube pieces! And V-cube applied for copyright laws... Tsk tsk tsk, copycats, and yet the quality is so low compared to V-cubes...

Anyway, to make everything neater / more orderly / reduce the entropy of the system, I arranged everything nicely...

Definitely a lot more beautiful than I expected!!! =) 255 pieces of plastic and 24 pieces of metal put together, with 15 different colours ( stickers, core, plastic, metal, haha), and of course, even more pieces than a 7*7*7 cube!!! =)

And then, the tedious bit... fixing everything up. Sigh, itchy hands...

1 down, 11 to go...

2 down, 10 to go...

(After a long while) Done... screwing everything in...

And then it seems to follow the same order as solving a megaminx: bottom-layer star 1st...

1 down, 4 to go...

2 down 3 to go, BOOMZ, 0 down 5 to go, 1 down 4 to go, 2 down 3 to go, 3 down 2 to g0, BOOMZ, 2 down 3 to go, bla bla bla, bla bla bla, bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla...

I left the centre caps out on purpose, to adjust tension, stupid cubeforyou, the pieces are not molded to perfection (maybe it's more appropriate if I say that they are molded to imperfection), so they lock up MORE THAN ONCE PER TURN no matter how I set the tension, so I guess I'll just screw everything in very loosely so that at least it's easier to turn...

These days I'm solving it in about an hour's time haha, probably a long way to go to cut my times down, especially the horrible edge grouping, imagine grouping 30 edges, super frustrating... Anyway, enjoy the pictures!!! Especially the one where everything is laid out on paper =)

Oh, and as a last (and mostly irrelevant) note, remember to turn up in the hall on monday, 2pm, for your physics MCQ paper!!! Just in case you party too hard and forget about it =)

Dear 6K,

Thanks for the many wonderful memories you've given me in these 2 years! Yesterday's Graduation Ceremony was really fun and I did not cry!! haha :) It was a pity that I could not sit together with the class, not even with the CCA leaders in our class... I'm sure you guys had lots of fun at the back of the hall, especially Jia Guang and Zhi Hui who were playing happily with the bears :p

I suppose the audience was really amazed by all the cubes in the video, as well as the part where Zhe Wei started writing the equation... It was really hilarious when Zhe Wei stared at the whiteboard and scratched his head :) Also the cubes with :) I <3 08S6K! were very impressive.. you can hear everyone go "WOW!" So thanks DK!! and THANK YOU JOEL for making such a wonderful video.. even though I kind of spoilt the fun earlier by doing something stupid... sorry for that :( Actually when the girls went off the stage, we wanted to stay there at first.. then Yuting said 走吧, so we didn't gather at the side... But then you guys stayed together after all and I wanted to join you all... but no time to run over :( Anyway, when all of you shouted WE LOVE YOU MRS LOH!, I was very surprised and happy!! I really didn't expect you guys to do it :)) The funny part was that the people around me (Fac Comm behind me) went like, "Wah, the voice sounded SO MANLY!" especially if you compare it with 6H.. Haha, well only the guys were shouting, so obviously it sounded very manly :) Of course, the climax of the whole ceremony was CAM-WHORING! A pity that Wei Yang left early... but we could still find a substitute :) Not to forget coming up with lame excuses to take photos with different people: PW groups, ILP groups, iSparkies, PRC group, all girls, non-ip etc :) Once again, THANK YOU 08S6K for the wonderful memories!!! I guess we wont forget one another that quickly.. We'll probably still have class gatherings ten years later.. haha! Btw, hope you all enjoyed reading the letter I wrote to each of you... I'm glad some of you find it heartwarming... :)

Somehow, today I feel like a normal JC 2 student... The reality is that we all still have to continue mugging and preparing for A levels.. Let's jiayou as a class and strive for the best so as not to let our tutors down! The partying can start once A levels end :)

Holiday day 1...

Rawr I shall blog here before FF finishes his own post hahaha... And it's sickening to see that if i blog with the master account I get to edit HTML and stuff but I don't get the same privileges with my own email account... GAH...

Yup, let me delve into the past 1st haha... Actually, GP turned out to be a little better than expected (or so I think la, duno how our marker's gonna mark my essay, will he kill me for talking cock, or will he mark me high for using relevant examples...), and I think it's the same for quite a few of us, ESPECIALLY AFTER YUQUN TOLD EVERYBODY TO STUDY DEMOCRACY... I still can't believe it, he's so lucky... Or maybe that's because O-level students tend to be better at this kind of thing (mmm yet another flaw of IP HAHAHA)... In any case, I can't imagine the look on Mr Wong's face HAHAHA ("Zhe Wei, democracy?! Langston, democracy?! Mui Suan, Singapore?! Jia Guang, Singapore?! Yuqun, democracy?!"), and oh my gosh, all those who did democracy gonna get marked rather high "because of the use of news fresh of the papers" like the DPJ-thrash-LDP-and-ended-a-50-year-long-LDP-reign and whatsoever... Oh well, hail Hatoyama!!! For improving your GP grades HAHAHA =)

But ai ya, still died at the compre... summary looked rather difficult to paraphrase... And not sure whether to go for the details or go for the bird's eye view thingy (one's too short, one's too long, irritating)... And the AQ is... aiyoh... why must talk in Singapore context again... like I haven't smoked enough about Singapore in the essay like that... But, at least, thank god, the 1st writer had a very interesting argument smack in the middle of the passage... Something about teenagers becoming more mature BECAUSE THEY HAVE ACCESS TO ADULT MATERIAL!? He must be insane (unless of course, the GP department tweaked his arguments)!!! And so, with all the help from the compre that Mr Wong told us to do the day before, I managed to sieve that argument out and flame him for 1 page. Hahaha. Lucky I spent 6 hours on the AQ section of that practice compre (oops, sorry Mr Wong, I know I'm supposed to spend only 30 minutes...) trying to hone my skills on picking out arguments... Viewing adult material makes you more mature?! WOW... If that's true the police would be out of a job man... And very funny huh Yuqun, "religion will come out", tsk tsk tsk...

And then hmm, those evil souls (*nasty cackle*) who went out to enjoy themselves (of course la, GP's over leh) didn't tell me they were going to Vivo... and I passed by there on my way home alamak... wanted to find out what they were doing there actually... turns out they sort of went to toys r'us to... take a look at rubik's stuff? Sigh... Rubik's stuff not very good for speedsolving... Well, except 3*3*3 perhaps, so I gonna modify my cubes... And the toys r'us so dumb dumb one, got gold mirror blocks dowan to sell, sell only silver ones... Hmm well, which explains why Mui Suan bought a (fake-ish?) gold mirror blocks for me at Hougang mall haha, $10.90 some more, less than half the price of the one at toys r'us even after their so-called 20% discount... Bloody hell, why don't they stock up on the newest DIY gigaminxes or maybe megaminxes and pyraminxes? Now I need to go all the way to IMM to buy... And yea, IMM sells megaminxes for less than $20 hahaha, make your orders with me soon!!! =)

And then... Saturday... sigh... I realized that I wouldn't be sleeping at home if I'd done a little better for SMO sigh... o well, a gold medal is very good, but it would be better if I won some cash to "reduce my budget deficit" right? Sigh... Nevertheless, that night, I realized... Hwachong didn't win individual 1st in SMO Junior!!! Which makes me... the... last... Hwachongian... to... you know what I mean... And I can leave this school... with my record still intact *EVIL CACKLE* =)

Mmm, well GP's over, but econs is not over (and pretty imminent too), so well I'm compiling notes again... gah so many topics, and it's about 50 pages already... And I still need to compile information from tutorials sigh... so tedious... It's like...

Reviving the Class Blog

I've been wanting to revive the blog since a looooooooooong time ago, but haven't found time to do so. And I wanted to do it last Thursday, blogger was down (or at least something was wrong with it and I couldn't type the post properly )

Ok, what should I write about?? I LOVE THE CLASS PAGE DESIGN!!! Pub I/C is really pro.. :) Wanted to upload it but decided not to lest other classes copy. But then again, who will want their class page to look like ours?? I think the SD managed to incorporate what is unique to our class in the design...

Which reminds me of another thing... OUR NON-EXISTENT CLASS VIDEO!! (I wonder if Mr Teo reads our blog...) anyway, I think we can include the class design into the video... One suggestion will be to make the names appear slowly one by one from the different faces of the KUBE... and then the KUBE appears! :) That will be abt 5s and can come in at the end of the video...

Oh the falling ceiling incident yesterday was really hilarious... I still chuckle at the thought of it.. Haha, I think Zhe Wei is really fortunate and who would have expected Mr Wong to have such an accurate prediction? Hope the estate office fill up the gaping hole asap...

Haha, I seriously think my brain juice flows better in the morning... so I should continue editing my PS now :)

It's been a long time since I last posted. Anyway, I'm sure everyone had a wonderful time yesterday... even though after dinner, we didn't do much... (which also means that those who joined us for dinner didn't get to do much...)

Even though it rained slightly at 12pm, the afternoon rain did not dampen our spirits! After a hearty Leisurely Laksa Lunch at Alexandra Food Court, we headed to Hot (Hort) Park... We had such a fantastic time relishing our childhood memories that we delayed our trekking... :p And of course, with DK and Tze Han present, how can 6K possibly resist playing IN a gigantic polyhedra??? So we spent even more time playing at the park...

Finally, we decided to trek.... Thanks to Joel who suggested trekking, the few of us who trekked yesterday definitely had a good workout :) Playing Trrrruth or Truth (junior Xinyi, I hope u get it now) was FUN!!! Who would have known that Zhi Hui's first crush was actually in primary school, or that Joel is a love guru who can explain the different stages of falling in love and the subtle difference between a crush and an infatuation. Most importantly, esp to TJH's harems out there, his ideal age to get married is 27 and a happy family with 3 kids :)

We took abt 3 hours to trek from HortPark to Vivocity, making numerous stops at the various fitness stations along the way (all because of a certain Health and Fitness Club member) but we enjoyed working out at the stations too :))) Along Henderson Waves, everyone got tired... The cool breeze definitely cooled us down... we simply decided to stop and rest longer there. In fact, we realised that it was a perfect spot to star gaze and even considered getting the class to meet us there instead....

At around 5.30pm, we eventually had to continue trekking so as to meet the class PUNCTUALLY AT 6PM (*coughs*) at Vivocity.... and of course to enjoy the aircon after spending about 6 hours in the sun... A pity Tze Han couldn't join us for dinner... but thanks Yong Lin, Yi Tyan and Huang Pei for joining us!!! As usual, after one hour of waiting (*coughs again*), dinner started. Another hour later, dinner ended and everyone tried to find something to do. Finally, after one more hour of slacking and doing nothing (or trying to test Yi Tyan more A level stuff), we decided to pack up and go home (to mug). But obviously, ppl like the President, Champion, DK and BlahKing didn't have to worry abt mugging since they happily went to the arcade at 9pm for more games!!!

Ultimately, I hope everyone had fun :) and it's not often we have a 3-generations gathering. All the best for blocks for 08 & 9S6K, as well as happy uni prep/army life for 07S6K!!!

1) 12560, verified with GC (YAY! I'm correct)
cos 30 you can evaluate yourself, then you multiply the expression by cos 10 divided by cos 10, then you realize a lot of stuff you can use double angle formula to simplify and cancel out! =)

Thank you all for the enthusiasm during STJ yesterday..... I really enjoyed myself!!! It was a great beginning of March hols for me.... Thanks for all the fun, joy and laughter. It really cheered me up esp after all the stress I felt during (and even after) Talentime... haha..... it feels wonderful being part of 6K.... I shall continue indulging in this joy before I return to sch on Tuesday for Talentime meeting... which I fear will drag on and on and on and on.....

It was really amazing that 43 out of 51 ppl attended STJ! Best showing ever :)) Thank you 09s6K for supporting us!!! Despite the short notice and last minute changes, even when we were at Vivocity and the situation becoming chaotic at times, all of you remained upbeat and didnt complain. I really appreciate that... Just think: It's the last physics lecture before block test. The physics department has been complaining about how many students are weak in their concepts. I step into the LT, expecting at least a review of past lectures' work, if not another lecture on electric fields.

AND YET, some IDIOT by the name of R_ _ _ _ _ Q_ _ _ decided to waste this valuable 1 hour and show us a video instead! On resonance, I heard? But it's 5 mins of resonance and 55 mins of irrelevant stuff isn't it?

So, when the BT1 results come out, physics department, please DO NOT complain about how students "cannot grasp their concepts properly", and if you have to, please make sure you all know WHO should be the 1 that is partially, if not largely, responsible.

Because a certain SHIT of a lecturer wastes our time with all kinds of silly scams like lighting a light bulb with your hair just by rubbing it (you still DARE to say a student actually cried in front of you because she believed it but found that there's no such thing?) and confuses our already messed-up concepts...

And, worse still, it is SOLELY thanks to all the extra time gained from rushing through important concepts instead of using this time to teach us more thoroughly that we get all this rubbish in lectures.

Also, I would like to highlight that my parents did not pay my school fees to let teachers READ my notes out to me. If I require someone to do that, I think my parents can do it, because they are literate, thank you very much. And to the relevant department: YOU PAY THIS GUY A SALARY JUST TO READ NOTES? I'll show you how to get rich by washing toilets...

Oh, and before I forget, let me state that I WALKED OUT DURING THE VIDEO TO STUDY ECONS. (don't worry, I was just outside the LT between the 2 doors all the while, if that warrants demerit points, I have nothing much more to say)

And it has been a most fruitful hour for me, because I felt that my time is NOT wasted memorizing my NIA notes.

Ok, must end on a more un-serious tone. Got back H3 test today. And sigh... 49/50. Missed out on full marks due some little thing I didn't state down. Ok la, 49/50 sounds crazy to you, and you may think I'm crazy, but that's the expectation I set for myself la=) O yes, and THE LYQ (not the chem O champion) got full marks. Ta-da, 6K still owns!

Sigh, been slacking too much over hols and past few months of this year...trying to get microeconomics back into my head is kinda proving to be quite a handful, and driving me crazy...all those concepts seem so distant... :(

Perhaps I've been addled by the attempt, but some phenomenon in the economy that I shall term "quantum economics" suddenly popped into my mind...so I shall briefly discuss it for fun. Prices, unlike that espoused within standard economic theory, be it the demand-supply model, AE-Y model et cetera, are not continuous. They are, I theorise, discrete, and come in 'quanta'.

A good example of this phenonemon would be that of hawkers (those at hawker centres, not just any hawker on the street). Over the years, even as general price level (and thus their costs of operation) rose, their prices tend to remain stable. However, once the government made the decision to increase GST, one finds that the prices that they charge immediately jump a notch up by 50 cents typically eg. from $2.50 to $3.00. Did the 2% increase in GST warrant such an increase? One could argue on the grounds of consumer exploitation, but given the wide availability of close substitutes (unless the food is like exceptionally good), this is unlikely to be the case. What of inflation over the years - why have they not taken it into account in their pricing? The answer would be that the mindsets of individuals are inevitably wired up by the notions of 'round figures' and convenience. It would be unduly troublesome for both the hawkers and consumers to deal with small denominations of money eg. a rise of 12 cents. Thus, only a sufficient increase in costs would precipitate an increase in price, somewhat analogous to the photoelectric effect whereby only a photon of sufficient energy would be able to liberate an electron.

Similarly, when pay rises are sought, they are usually in multiples of $100s - no one requests for a $63 increment for example; they would perhaps wait a few more months or so and then request for a $100 increment instead.

What impacts would the 'round figures' mindset of individuals, and consequently the quantisation of prices have on economic analysis? That, I leave to the readers to develop. That being said, it appears to be time to get back to trying to recall my microeconomics concepts...

Hello :)

Havent blogged for a very long time. Today's fac cip was really fun... here's the details.

before 8.30am: we were waiting outside the audi for the buses... everyone grew bored after a while... (esp. DK since Xin Yi (09s6k), Zhe Wei and Jia Jun were playing with his cubes) So the wonderful welfare rep decided to play GAMES!!! wanted to play tuki-tuki initially but then Zhao Dan introduced this new di-didi-di-di, di-di finger game. played for 1 or 2 rounds only and the buses came...

11.30am: 08s6k and 09s6k met up for LUNCH at blk 211!!! sadly our A/CT rep had to leave for his H3 lessons and didnt join us... Continued playing the finger game... Took more class photos during lunch, even more photos of JJ and Xin Yi cubing. Coincidentally, Joel was photographed taking more food as they were cubing (JL, upload the pics!!!) and Joel's facial expression in the class photo was rather hilarious.

Profiling: We had 3 grps in the morning, but left with only 2 after JH left... Yuting did join us later in the afternoon though. Profiling wasnt as difficult as i had expected. The main problem was probably trying to communicate with the elderly or the non-Chinese who dont speak English. I encountered this Malay couple who could speak a bit of English and Hokkien... and I ended up asking them questions in broken English, Malay and Hokkien, really like rojak. Fortunately, they found the interaction rather humourous and were laughing while answering..

Hui Min and Joel also met this elderly woman who could only speak Hokkien... in the end, the entire group of us went to look for the woman after we're done with the other units to try and converse with her in Hokkien. Found it really weird to speak Hokkien when I'm actually a Teochew. Not much difference, but some words really dont sound similar and I just have to guess what they're trying to say. Of course, thankfully, there's Zhe Wei who can understand the dialects but cant speak them.

Got kinda tired after lunch, but we suddenly chanced upon 3 primary sch boys who injected lots of fun and joy into today's CIP. JJ was doing profiling when he came across the kids. I have absolutely no idea how he hit it off so well with the kids... So the 3 very energetic kids became our little tour guides and tagged along with us for the rest of our cip, giving us directions to the various blks we had to go to. Most of the time, they just stick to Jia Jun gor gor, which they call affectionately. It started raining, and we wanted to share our umbrellas with them. But they only wanted Jia Jun gor gor to shelter them... so all 4 of them shared 1 umbrella -_-" It was quite a hilarious sight.. 1 of them (i cant rmb their names) held tightly onto JJ's shirt, and the other 2 boys stood beside the boy. So they were standing in a line (think polymer chain) and trying to cross the road with only 1 umbrella. Of course, Jia Jun gor gor decided to sacrifice himself and shelter the kids... Ok as a matter of fact, the rain wasnt that heavy, so they werent very wet.

3pm: We finished combing the area and decided to go McDonalds for a quick bite... the kids tagged along too. Hui Min bought fries but in the end, she ended up treating the kids to fries. So here are some pics:

The very nice Jia Jun gor gor even helped to carry their bags!! I think they were quite sad when they found out that Jia Jun gor gor is not going on Sunday. Anyway, we brought them home after that, and went over to find our juniors.. Helped them clear up... and in the process, JJ dirtied his pants and I had paint all over my hands :(

Overall, fac cip was quite fun this year.. and you really get to know that the economic crisis is indeed something real which has affected some Singaporeans. Personally, I gain a lot from today's experience. Sometimes we really ought to reflect and be grateful for whatever we have.

The Curse of the AMC

And so, the curse of the AMC strikes yet again ... somehow I just lack a certain affinity with AMC, or rather, more than that: more like 八字不合that sort of thing...

Two years ago, I screwed up my AMC-10 'cause I unluckily fell ill on that day. Two years on, I ended up falling ill the day before AMC-12 (yes, yesterday, if anyone was wondering why i seemed so sluggish), which undoubtedly managed to reduce my cognitive ability significantly. Thankfully, chem SPA didn't require much thinking, so it hopefully wasn't affected that badly. The same does not hold for AMC-12 though. Twas' only after the paper did I realise that I had made at least 3 SILLY CARELESS mistakes. And so poof goes 18 marks for no good reason, and my final chance at qualifying for AIME as well =(

OK... since this place seems deader than our juniors' blog (cos we somehow all diffuse there and talk SMTP)... And friday seemed a bit more interesting... I shall blog! =)

8am: PE... Playing in field is not a fun thing, I get all the grass flying into my socks and shoes... And sigh i prefer throwing a ball around rather than a frisbee... Nevertheless it's better than running rounds and rounds around the school, it feels so aimless and dumb... And yea, for the not-so-sporty people, a few tips to help you play better (in all sports in general) and enjoy the games:

1) Keep an eye on people who are in dangerous positions.
2) If someone is unmarked, please start marking him. Especially those in dangerous positions.
3) Marking = Keeping an eye on the person ALL THE TIME and following wherever he/she goes (during the game that is, please don't do this when the person is going home lest he/she phones the police instead).
4) Effective marking = Reducing the chance of the person in possession from passing to whoever you are marking (usually by attempting to get in between the 2 of them). At least that's what I feel la.
5) If your team is the 1 in possession, please do everything you can so that whoever is doing 1) to 4) on you can't do it properly. This includes darting away from your marker into clear positions where others can pass to you.

Easy peasy! The art of harassing the hell out of people without playing dirty, hope you derive pleasure from doing it... Please don't overdo it though (like kicking or pushing people), in case you incur the ire of your opponent, and I assure you, it won't be nice if you play rough on me...

10am: The biggest shock of the day. Guess what? Miss How stepped in!!! OMG and I hadn't finished my tutorial... Ok I shan't say anymore in case my big mouth gets me into trouble that I sorta escaped from temporarily...

1.30pm: Poor Mr Wong, seeing so many people depart from his lesson just like that... and poor me, carrying 10 copies of the same GP worksheet home... See? Sai-gang king of 6K, I'm so nice to you all...

3.20pm: OOPS, I didn't know MOP started so early, and I stepped into a class of 15+ PRCs, 1 Vietnamese and... 1 Singaporean! Yes, it's the LWZ whoz in National team! And oops again, we sorta kept finding flaws in the trainer's/Mr Ho's/Professor Ho's/Dr Ho's/Jun Wei's (OMG what the hell am I supposed to address him as) solutions, and he praised us! For being SHARP!!! I guess that's natural for us, after all we were nurtured for 1 year to have SHARP eyes and SHARP ears=)

4.30pm: Went to MAC for a while, since we're gonna welcome the J1s! And guess what I saw? 1 Malaysian (Junior Peng Hui that is), and EVEN MORE PRCs!!! Like 30+ of them!!! Not trying to widen the international gap la, but it feels really bad and lonely for me... like I'm overseas!!! Wonder where did all those 09S6Kers who said they wanted to join MAC went... oh heck, I won't be really needed anyway, CO needs me more, so lalala off to MPH...

4.45pm: I'm supposed to check on the rest and make sure they play properly... ok... I've been intending to do it anyway, I just didn't have the heart to... So I started clapping the tempo... again... and again... and again... and again... for almost 2 hours... looks like the 1st law of thermodynamics is really true: You don't need to supply heat energy to heat an object (in this case my hands la) up...

6.30pm: Finally going home! The end of a horrifyingly hectic week... To prepare for an even more hectic week. Tons of homework, AMC-12, chem SPA, H3 test, MAC training, compounded exponentially with never-ending nagging, and an urge to keep sleeping on and on and on until someone comes to kiss me before I wake up... Life is hell man (except for the kissing bit la=P)...

In case you guys still don't realize the importance of your contributions (if you contribute that is), assuming you answer 30 qns per minute (after some practice, and yes it's certainly not out of the way), coupled with *ahem* my slightly more phenomenal question-answering rate (yes yes, i'm ego-ing, i know it, allow me to do that please, for the sake of persuading you all), we could answer 750 questions a minute at a more pessimistic estimation... that's about 15 times of what I do a minute... and for more information, the current leader in high sch classes category has answered about 130k qns, so if we all play for about an hour a day we could overtake them in 3 or 4 days' time... Yes it's true, if you don't believe me try it yourself... after all, 25 brains work better than 1=)

Yes, the real thing begins only on 3rd March 9pm, but this is just an eye-opener to show you what we can do as one 08S6K (sorry juniors, can't include you guys and girls). if you really wish to graduate with something about this class (other than the class photos) start contributing now! (Un)Eventful Week

Appears that I've had my fair share of unluckiness / uneventfulness this week, possibly due to Friday the 13th ( water bomb attack was lots of fun though :) ) or well perhaps simply a lack of sleep (slack too much, then have to stay up to finish work, aye...).

Monday: After Maths lecture, I was exiting the LT, when I saw that the door was closing. Like what I routinely do, I proceeded to push (kick) the door open and 'slide' out in a single fluid action. Alas, something awry occurred with my judgement. I ended up smashing my shoulder - hard - onto the doorframe (?) (that was the cause of that huge reverberating bang, if any of you are wondering lol), which yielded a cut and bruised shoulder :(

Tuesday: Lunchtime. Nearing the high school canteen, I almost slipped while climbing some stairs ( thanks to Jia Guang for his help :) ), which is an exceedingly rare occurence, given my experience with stairs.

Wednesday: Chemistry Practical. In an instance of clumsiness, while attempting to pour FA1 into the measuring cylinder, I somehow managed to pour it all over my hand. Thankfully 0.5 mol/dm3 HCl is relatively harmless, or so it feels on my skin (like just water).

Thursday: Not exactly an accident of sorts, but somewhere into the day, sometime just felt strange and odd with my mind, as though something had just disappeared or gone missing from it. Till now, the same feeling ensues, and I remain at a loss as to what had transpired. o.0

Friday: Moments before the water bomb attack, I was wandering around the tennis court while our juniors were performing the 6K cheer. Somehow I ended up colliding with the edge of the net. Thinking nothing of it, it was only when I reached home that I discovered that that seemingly innocuous impact had left me with another bruise-cut, this time on my thigh :(

Hopefully, everything will be back to normal next week....sigh...

Shocking discovery at Hwachong lab

Latest test results, coming phrom a chemistry lab (B109) in HCICS on the morning oph 14th January 2008 have shown that the order oph reaction with respect to iodide ions in the redox reaction with peroxydisulfate (S2O8 2-) ions is in phact not 1, as stated by most books and other repherences, but a mere 0.346. The discoverer oph this ground-breaking "phact", who wishes to be known only as "DK", has claimed and insisted that his results are absolutely accurate, veriphiable and reproducible, despite numerous classmates swearing that they heard him spew vulgarities phor 5 minutes over the phact that the burette had overneutralized his results 3 times out oph 4. The iodine produced in the 1st reaction was to be reacted with thiosulfate (S2O3 2-) ions phrom a burette to phind the amount oph iodine in a procedure known as "titration", and starch used to indicate when to stop adding thiosulfate ions, when the solution turns phrom dark blue to colourless. "DK" stated that his titration had "phuphilled the requirement oph the colour change" and hence his answers would dephinitely not be wrong, despite the 2008 Singapore Chemistry Olympiad champion (who was also phrom that class as well) pointing out that he "could have over-added thiosulfate ions". Whether this "discovery" will be a new era phor the area oph reaction kinetics or just phurther evidence oph the phact that chemistry tutors need to conduct special lab sessions just to teach students how to perphect the art (or "science") oph turning a burette tap at the correct moment remains questionable. Meanwhile, educated guesses at what the tutor (who was not available phor comment, er, probably due to the shame oph it all) oph that phatephul lab session have been unanimous, and they generally lie the the area oph "this student has been over-mugging".

Meeting place: Tampines MRT control station/ticketing office/whatever

Meeting time: 2.30PM (a bit late also never mind la)

How to get there: We will go Tampines Interchange, take bus 29... ya must pay money, and some brave soul must remind us where to alight... JL will be going there early to check in, will confirm again whether we go straight to the bungalow or the check-in place, that I not sure...

Fac outing a lot of people right? Makes you wonder where they all went before that... Same day, same afternoon, just a few hours earlier, they all disappeared...

Well, outing didn't last too long, but I still had time to, after 3 unsuccessful attempts to put prof Ho's face in the picture, take this...

Artemis fac outing 2--GUNS N' ROSES (which ended with a bang haha) So there were lots of GUNS (in the movie) but no ROSES at all...

Having experienced Hat That, 6K understands the importance of self-entertainment during the outing. As such, we went back to CUBING!!!

Even Yi Sheng is cubing..

Besides cubing, being Scientifically & Mathematically Talented People, our entertainment can get rather scientific..

And this includes MUGGING!

However, some mugger got sick of these Scientifically & Mathematically Talented People, and decided to puncture their brains.

The mugger was also irritated by Zhi Hui's very high singing pitch and decided to put an end to it forever...

A fac outing is never complete without FOOD (esp when Joel is there).. and these ppl are the FIRST to eat..

Oh and our Supreme Dictator did join us for dinner :)

And we wonder who had so many servings...

The highlight of yesterday's event had to be the COMPLETE THE JIGSAW PUZZLE during dinner. The rules are rather simple. Jigsaw pieces were stuck on every seat in the cinema and you need to find your class jigsaw pieces. Other classes might have the pieces you want and you just have to trade/ beg them for the pieces. Of course, there probably exists some people who threw other class jigsaw pieces away so that they cant win... till now, we still have 2 pieces missing :p

Anyway, we pasted Haoyang's photo initially.. but it somehow dropped and disappeared.

So we got our Supreme Dicator to go "backstage" and help us hunt for that missing piece. To our delight, he found it!! :) Kudos to our CT Rep.

And with that missing piece now put in place, we won for ourselves $90 SWENSEN'S VOUCHERS!! Haha, will most likely use it during our class chalet! So if you wanna enjoy the ice cream treat, go for the chalet :)

Unfortunately, just like the jigsaw puzzle, our class photos are never complete... Pic of ALL who went for the fac outing... It's a pity that our Supreme Dictator was not inside.

Fac outing + Class outing

In lieu of fac outing tomorrow, we, or rather, I, have been er, accidentally ended up organizing this class outing... Details as follows:

Meeting place: Bugis MRT control station (same old, same old)
Time: 11.30am
Attire: NO school-related T-shirt and pants (socks are fine i guess)

What to bring:
1) Cubes, cubes and CUBES... because we may end up having to waste some time cubing, esp. during after the movie... and please don't borrow from me, my cubes are battered enough...
2) Stuff to play (not musical instruments though)... Er not sure if cards are allowed, but yea... Does anyone want me to bring the board games? If yes, reply... If no, reply as well... But remember that you may kill me if you request to bring them, yes...
3) MONEY!!! To pay for whatever we are playing or eating...

What we are doing:
1) Set off tentatively at 12, to eat lunch (ya, so do NOT eat lunch 1st) at Bugis Junction, the entire basement of Bugis Junction is full of food...
2) Play pool! HoJJ says there's pool, so we'll rely on him to turn up tomorrow and lead us there... But if there's no pool... well, other games or the arcade should keep us busy...
3) Extra time? Start cubing, playing, talking rot, anything... Since TMS has always encouraged us to talk more and play less during class outings... for class bonding, isn't it?
4) Movie, and whatever else the fac comm want us to do... EXCEPT fac prince and princess...

IMPORTANT:
Tell me if you are coming for the CLASS outing (so if you dowan to come for fac outing also can) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. You can reply via egroups, but preferably sms me at... no i'm not telling you my number here, check the egroups yourself=) ... so that I know if you're coming if you're late tomorrow... "Class Outing" and "PW"

11 ppl went for class lunch yesterday -- Jeremy's PW group, Jian Hua's PW group and Hui Min. A pity we went to KAP again.. Oh well, at least the 2 ppl (Wei Zhong and Zhe Wei) who seldom join us for class outings went too :) Haha the turnout for class outings is really getting better :)

After lunch, Jeremy's grp was filming PW video.. and the rest went back to school. The welfare rep has nothing better to do and decided to follow the dictator's group. Like what Jian Hua said, since their group helped us in our video, we should help them too.. But I was not of much assistance... Only provided some ideas.

Went to JL's house after the filming. It was supposed to be a PW meeting for them but eventually it became PIANO LESSONS for Shizhi, Yuting and I. Of course, the supreme dictator is super IMBA, and Zhao Dan is very pro as well! So both of them ended up teaching us piano. And we tried to learn... From around 2pm to 7.30pm... Haha..

Anyway, the "PW meeting" or "class outing" was really fun!! Got to interact more with Shizhi and Zhao Dan. Hopefully, next time the class outing will be better and not at JL's house again. Still remember the very pathetic outing with only 4 ppl at JL's house and we played board games all the way.

Ok.. I am in the mood to blog :) (multi-tasking now: got PW ppt on hand, PW online meeting, listening to F4 songs..) I ought to GET UNPLUGGED!

Anyway, turnout for today's class lunch wasnt that bad.. 7 ppl. Though it could have been 8 if ahem wanted to follow us to KAP. Haha. Oh ya, thanks for waiting for me to complete my meeting :)

It was rather interesting to note that somehow, 6 out of the 7 ppl ate fillet-o-fish burger. All except the supreme dictator, who thinks that chicken is supreme, before going on to say: actually, i prefer fish... Is langston jealous?? :p

Hopefully the turnout for future class outings will be better.. Aint really excited abt GUNS N' ROSES... Speaking of which, we HAVENT elected our FAC KING & QUEEN representatives... Can apply P and C. For the queen nominee, just 3C1. As for king nominee, xC1. (I dunno how many guys are going...)

So.. today's the third last day of school. Everyone's talking about what H3 subjects to take. Seems like math, econs and physics are the top choices. Why no one interested in pharm chem? Anyway, I shall not think too much about H3 subjects lest I start changing my mind again...

Went high school comp lab to do PW today. Surplus of computers there :) A lot faster as well.. hee hee. Cant wait to show the class our PW video... but too bad, we cant show it to the class now cos its only 95% done... let's just watch it on 5 nov :) Groups in the afternoon session can watch it at a later time lah.. haha. Must thank all the calefares (Jeremy's PW group and Langston) for all the hard work and effort they put in :P Dont worry, all your faces can be clearly seen in the video! DK will most likely upload the video after OP as well as all the NGs.. So do keep a lookout for the videos!!

Only about 10 days left to OP. I'm supposed to get unplugged.. erm, time really flies. J1 life ending soon. Cant wait for all the upcoming class outings etc. Maybe we can have a class outing after OP on 5 nov... groups in morning session can go for lunch together, and then groups in afternoon session can join us once they finish :) Go watch movies!!!! Wednesday movies not very ex.. haha.

Then on 7 nov, before Guns N' Roses, we can have class lunch together and then play pool (since so many ppl wanna play pool). haha. Must take more photos during these outings so that we can use them for class montage next year.

Hmmm yes, as usual, good news is, excluding 7B and their 8 super-strong PRCs + 1 undesirable physics-taking students, we have topped EVERY CONTENT-BASED SUBJECT we are taking!!! *APPLAUSE!!!* EVEN ECONOMICS!!! Makes you wonder how "SMTP" can top econs as well...

So yea, special thanks to our lovely CT Mrs Loh (OMG, teach 2 classes, then both top 2 for physics), Mrs Tham (who has kindly bore with me and all my nonsense for not paying her printing fees for so long... but i paid already, dun worry), Mr Yeo (eh what to thank him for? We already that pro nia HAHA), and yes, Miss HOW!!! HOW to thank her... hmm... eh for being so patient with us? and me?

And yes, for those who didn't do too well this time, there's BT1, BT2, prelims and A-levels next year!!! Not to mention all the lecture tests!!! So yea, we can continue to extend the gap so that we hehheh own 7B as well!!! We'll get 25 As for maths, chem and physics!!! Econs dun think so la haha...

OK, for courtesy sake, I shall not talk about PW... But since our day consists of only PW and that bloody students' forum, that's what I shall talk about...

Seriously, do any of you think that such a good way to collect feedback will be effective on us students? Especially on people who just prefer to wreak havoc during the session with all kinds of crap, thinking they're very funny?

And have you noticed (hopefully), especially people who came from the place that was once known as "THE Chinese High School", the moment someone voices out something at the mike, useful or not, constructive or not, the next few people who come up to speak will give you the feeling that they all seem to lack this certain portion in their brains called the "common sense" faculty, due to an overdevelopment of other portions such as the "complain" and "talk cock" faculty?

One more thing, do you realize that there are many among the audience that actually laugh at all these, thinking that this session is meant for jokes? Perhaps it is, not because of the nature of the session, but because of the nature of najority of the audience? Because these people are not taught when to start laughing and when to shut up? And so, I treat it as a joke, but it's not the funny type, it's the kind of exasperated, OMG-ish kind of feeling that I made a wrong choice to come into this school...

Yes yes, I seem too extreme, I think I'm aware of that, school life is hectic, I lack a lot of sleep, and by the time I can enjoy sleep, I'm too used to sleeping late that I can't sleep... But if you ignore the fact that I was the one who said all this, surely, there is indeed some sense behind all of it?

Sec 1 to sec 4... and now JC1... why are all the forums the same? Meaning, all full of rubbish? Can't people think through more carefully about whether their own words make sense before they actually say it? If you really do that, you'll find that there is not much to complain about, really. The school has really done a lot. You guys will have heard this morning. Students' Lounge, cafes, vending machines, almost anything and just about everything. Yes, demanding for more water coolers is not wrong, since the weather these days is really unbearably hot... Yes, demanding for non-leaky roofs are not wrong either... but... Others? More lounges? Vending machines? More of this, more of that. Do you really need it?

And please, stop complaining over all kinds of little things, like how GP tutors mark, how you accidentally enter the wrong toilet because you are looking at the ground and not the little black person there to see if it's wearing pants or a skirt when you walk in... It's really very irritating, isn't it? It's time for feedback, not time for complains...

Probably nothing I say here will be recognized, but oh well... maybe someday someone like a teacher will read this and... I duno, improve the situation somehow? Yea, 1 more year of forums, hopefully things will change... for the better...

Sigh... stupid festival of sports. Yea yea, "it's only a game", but try it, and let's see whether you truly feel the same way...

O well, at least we tried hard... After all, defending football requires "immense discipline"... which is probably the reason why Greece won Euro 2004... AND, the moment you leak the 1st goal, you are probably dead... which is the reason why Greece lost all 3 group games in Euro 2008... and how the hell would I know the same damn luck would befall us...

Actually we were never favoured to progress out of the group stage 1 la right, got S6G and A12... but heck, give it a try, things may turn out differently eh? And so... we started kicking balls...

O yes, before I forget, most of us ended up playing with NO soccer boots, and all of us played with NEITHER shin guards NOR high socks... so much for the rules, PE department 自己讲，自己爽...

Ok, 1st match, against super-strong S6G. O well, our team consisted of an attacking frontline made up of 100% CHINESE, and the backline were all LOCALS. And poor me, attacking defender... No wonder my legs feel so sore now... So, against a team a lot stronger than yourselves, what do you do? Yes, play like Greece. It worked... nearly. At half-time the score was 0-0 (c'mon, there's a lot to cheer for 6K in that)... then in 2nd half, this sucker just bombed the ball forward, and it curled and was very high and i-duno-what-other-adjectives-can-be-used AND... it flew past goalie Joel and into the net. SHIT. DEAD.

Lala, at least we did a bit better than 7B (sorry guys and girls)... Never mind, still got 2 more games... O YES, 2 MORE GAMES... and so, our 2nd game started in the worst possible fashion, playing with 2 men less due to *ahem* 2 fellows forgetting to come back after watching too much basketball... when they came back, we are already 1-0 down... And I forgot to add, it happened when i was forced to lead the attack... and didn't have enough evergy to run back... SO, 2 games lost, by the narrowest damn margin, and we're out of the tournament...

Never mind, 1 more game, against S60... supposedly easier sia... but still...

It all started so promisingly again... 1st half ended 0-0... defending well again...By the way this idiot, while I was backtracking to mark the guy running down the right flank, came out and bumped he out of my way... repeatedly, with his arms sticking out... i swear to GOD, if i wasn't keeping my eyes on the ball I'd have stuck a foot out and made him trip and eat artificial turf... And for that matter, might as well just kick him out of my way... That''ll show him that blocking others like this is not allowed... Anyway, he did get his rewards, falling over after Jeremy cleared the ball later... serves you right sucker...

Then it happened. I didn't defend properly again. Sickening, things ALWAYS happen the moment i forget to backtrack in time... should have just slid the ball out of play ARGH... And so, for the 3rd time, we were down 1-0... got pissed... attacked more, forgot to defend again... 2-0... damnit gone case...

Erm ya, so that pretty much sums up the day of the 6K soccer team... sorry fellow Chinese, i couldn't defend... and sorry fellow Singaporeans, i couldn't attack... We only conceded 4 goals, and yet we couldn't even secure a point... HARD LUCK...

And after that, I drank and drank and drank and drank and drank and drank... and ate and ate and ate...

Our dear PE rep was the best... I passed him the paper he printed out regarding fixtures. He took it, stood up, tore it up and threw it into the bin. Simply brilliant, Yuqun...

hello everyone!! haha... havent posted for a very long time. no lame pics or videos in this post.

spent last few days in the boarding school for a camp. missed out on FOS as well as the JERRY YEN show :( anyway, i felt quite dumb today. the welfare rep, being very concerned about the class performance at the FOS, decided to ask the ct rep how the class did during the competition. our supreme dictator said that for soccer, the class won all matches but 3. when i saw the sms, i was extremely delighted and felt so proud of the class. but then, xinyu and others asked me how many games did 6k play... and i wondered if 6k only played 3... to my surprise/dismay, 6k soccer team indeed played 3 matches only... aiyoh.. kena tricked... sigh, should i be glad that i actually felt proud of the class for that mere 5 seconds?

really very sad that i missed jerry yen's show.. but still can watch online :) anyway, today was a rather long day for me... break camp at 5pm and still need to attend graduation ceremony rehearsal. and i only had 4 hours of sleep yesterday, or rather this morning.. hee hee, was chatting with dina, xinyu and lisa from 11pm to 2am.. crapped all the way. tiring but lotsa fun :) i dont think i can ever talk to the guys in 6k for 3 hours straight. anyone wants to prove me wrong? :p maybe we can try...during class chalet?

very busy this week.. open house, graduation ceremony etc.. no matter what, enjoy your sabbaticals ppl!!! life will be back to normal pretty soon(ie mugging, preparing for OP) ...

I was sitting at my desk when I remembered a phone call I had forgotten to make. I found the number and dialed it.
A man answered, saying, “Hello.”
I politely said, “This is Jason Braemore. Could I please speak with Rachel Carter?”
Suddenly, the phone was slammed down on me - I couldn't believe that anyone could be so rude.

I tracked down Rachel's correct number and called her - I had transposed the last two digits of her phone number. After hanging up with her, I decided to call the 'wrong' number again…

When the same guy answered the phone, I yelled, “You're a scumbag!” and hung up.

I wrote his number down with the word 'scumbag' next to it, and put it on my speed dial. Every couple of weeks, when I was paying bills or had a really bad day, I'd call him up and yell, “You're a scumbag!” It always cheered me up!

When Caller ID came to our area, I thought my therapeutic 'scumbag' calling would have to stop. So, I called his number and said, “Hi, this is John Smith from the Telephone Company. I'm just calling to see if you're familiar with the Caller ID program?”
He yelled, “NO!” and slammed the phone down.
I quickly called him back and said, “That's because you're a scumbag!”

One day I was at the store, getting ready to pull into a parking spot. Some guy in a black BMW cut me off and pulled into the spot I had patiently waited for. I hit the horn and yelled that I had been waiting for the spot. The idiot ignored me. I noticed a “For Sale” sign in his car window… so I wrote down his number.

A couple of days later, right after calling the first scumbag, I thought I had better call the BMW scumbag too.
I said, “Is this the man with the black BWM for sale ?”
“Yes, it is.”
“Can you tell me where I can see it?”
“Yes, I live at 1969 West 35th Street. It's a yellow house, and the car's parked right out in front.”
“What's your name?” I asked.
“My name is Don Hanson,” he said.
“When's a good time to catch you, Don?”
“I'm home every evening after five.”
“Listen, Don, can I tell you something?”
“Yes?”
“Don, you're a scumbag.”
Then I hung up, and added his number to my speed dial. Now, when I had a problem, I had two scumbags to call…

But after several months of calling them, it wasn't as enjoyable as it used to be. So, I came up with an idea. I called Scumbag #1…
“Hello.”
“You're a scumbag!” (But I didn't hang up…)
“Are you still there?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I said.
“Stop calling me,” he screamed.
“Make me,” I said.
“Who are you?” he asked.
“My name is Don Hanson.”
“Yeah? Where do you live?”
“Scumbag, I live at 1969 West 35th Street, a yellow house, with my black Beamer parked in front.”
He said, “I'm coming over right now, Don. And you had better start saying your prayers.”
I said, “Yeah, like I'm really scared, scumbag.”
Then I called Scumbag #2.
“Hello?” he said.
“Hello, scumbag,” I said.
He yelled, “If I ever find out who you are, I'll…”
“You'll what?” I said.
“I'll kick your ass,” he exclaimed.
I answered, “Well, scumbag, here's your chance. I'm coming over right now.”

Then I hung up and immediately called the police, saying that I lived at 1969 West 35th Street, and that I was on my way over there to kill my gay lover.

Then I called CKVU Channel 13 News about the gang war going down on West 35th Street.

I quickly got into my car and headed over to 35th Street.

There I saw two scumbags beating the crap out of each other in front of six squad cars, a police helicopter, and news crew.

Now I feel a lot better…

Ok ok I'll blog... since we've been reduced to blogging "just to make up the numbers" literally... And yes, after all the torrid lessons, esp. with proteins, and a bad flu, there's a need for a little bit more lameness...

Nevertheless, national glory!!! Singapore has won its 1st ever GOLD MEDAL in Olympic Games!!! O well, not quite, it's Paralympics, but still, something to be proud of, and this time I think there should be no argument about whether this particular athlete should be awarded extra $$$ by the gah-men...

Which makes me think about how wonderful the olympic games have been this year... again... michael phelps, singapore's olympic medal, and my beloved usain bolt haha...

Anyway, back to school life (or the lack of it). I caught someone, er, doing something that's sort of morally wrong, cos it's not in the school rules... but o well, my sympathies go out to... never mind...
Eh... he looks like the guy who plundered goals against me for fun during FOS last year...

There's no doubt about it, he IS the 1... But... poor thing... must have been the lesson that he was in...

Lastly, a gentle reminder for all of you to take care of your health... Or else... a prelude of what might happen during your promos...
Sorry Mrs Tham, didn't mean it, genuine accident...

And yet another gentle reminder to Misters Lim (Wei zhong) and Lin (Yuqun) to GET MY CUBE BACK ASAP... I'm not waiting 1 week for it...

So on this fine Saturday, a group of random people represented the school in the 49th National Inter-Schools Team Chess Championship.
The teams were:
(F) Hwa Chong Team 'A'
1. Lisa Chew (7B)
2. Jamie Pang
3. Chua Xin Rong (6H) (C)
4. Zheng Jiahui (6H)
5. Qiu Yonghui (A13)

Hwa Chong Team 'B'
1. Oh Kian Min (first aider)
2. Lim Kia Yee (6H) (astronomer)
3. Myself (bridge player)
4. Norvin Chan (A13) (judoka)
5. Marvin Chua (C) (chess & 'environmentalist'/'green clubber')

Due to some issues, the 'true' chess team with the pro players couldn't take part - hence, apart from the team captains, the rest weren't from chess at all (except maybe Jamie Pang, who used to be in chess in NYGH), but just a random collection of people, some of whom i only met today- Kian Min, Norvin (on Team B, that is).

The event took place at oddly, a primary school, Northland Primary School. (the toilets were, well erm, 'interesting' of course, prompting Norvin to want to take a photo of it)
Prizes available were:

a. Top 3 Teams in each category
b. Top 3 Teams in each Zone for each category
c. Top 3 Girls Team in Open, Secondary Open & Secondary U-14

This was of course, rather silly in certain aspects - some zones only had 1 participating school (eg. East: VJC), and there were only two girls' teams (NYGH & Xin Rong's team) in the Open category. Being such a haphazard collection of random people, we dared not try for being in the top 3 in the category, but aimed at a zonal position(6 schools or so in the West Zone); the girls, cheatingly, were already guranteed a "second-placed" girls' team at the very least.

Getting matched up against a relatively highly rated ACS(I) in the first game, all of us (ie team B), who were unrated, got owned 0-4. Team A got owned by some other team too. Next two rounds were slightly better, with 2-2 and 4-0. Then the break for lunch arrived. Went to a nearby coffeeshop to eat instead of at the school canteen, 'course a certain greedy someone complained about the small portions of food that the primary school canteen would probably provide (who later unabashedly asked for a routine 加饭). On the way back, Xin Rong ended up getting pestered by some random shopkeeper promoting some random product or something like that o.0.

Upon arrival back in the hall (the playing area) after some laxing in the canteen, we found that to our horror, a 互相残杀scenario was set in store for us. Team A was up against Team B! The match ups were:
Board 1: Kian Min vs Jamie Pang
Board 2: Kia Yee vs Xin Rong
Board 3: Myself vs Jiahui
Board 4: Norvin vs Yonghui (incidentally, i somehow get the impression that they are a couple or something lol)
of which Team B managed to win 3-1, losing only to Jamie Pang.

Up against RJC next, we were thrashed horribly again. The last round left was the crucial one. Whether or not we manage to get anything worthwhile for today's time & effort (except the experience of course, if ya want to sound politically correct xD) hinged upon the result. It was a rather sad event for me, as I lost for the same reason as I did for the previous two losses - poor handling of the endgame. What was worst that he had offered draw earlier, but thinking that my position was better (indeed it was slightly so), I declined, and proceeded to screw up my endgame. The team thus ended up 2-2. Team A got a BYE for the round (due to odd number of teams), thus getting 2 points. A first-placed girls' team award was in store as long as NYGH got 2 points or below against their opponent. They ended up getting 2.5 points, resulting in a draw with Team A. As to what the final result was, only the tiebreakers could tell.

A conversation that took place during Team A's BYE: "Who's Kia Yee?" "That girly-looking guy." Apparently Marvin got linked to girliness as well.

After some anxious anticipation, the awards ceremony began. Then came the deciding moment - the announcing of the West Zone results: "Third place - (forgot which school)."; having expected to clinch third, we became rather anxious - maybe by a stroke of luck, we got second? "Second place - JJC Team B." A wave of disappointment swept over us. I started feeling really bad about not having accepted the draw, as was Norvin about accidentally stalemating his opponent. If only we had not messed up like that, then perhaps we would have gotten something...

After a moment of mulling over regret & disappointment and Marvin, team captain, saying some encouraging words ... "First - Hwa Chong Team B!" It was a defining moment of shock & excitement - somehow, somehow, we had managed to clinch a totally unexpected first in the West Zone! Team A also won in the tiebreaker to clinch first-placed girls' team. So in a sense, Hwa Chong got double champs! xD

And so we departed, walking towards the interchange/mrt station, except for The Greedy one who went to consume dinner, after having asked umpteen times whether anyone wanted to "eat dinner outside". And so the exciting day concluded with a weird thing occuring on the bus for me. Randomly picking a seat and seating down, I soon felt gusts of hot air. After moments of investigating, the cause was established as ... a hole on the floor! I could see the road through the hole!

It's strange how things have changed even though I vanished from the face of singapore for a mere 2 weeks and 4.5 hours... like getting a big welcome from the school in the form of demerit points, michael phelps winning 8 gold medals, world records and olympic records tumbling everywhere, and of course the extraordinary usain bolt, oh, and before i forget, all the bloody lectures and tutorials i missed...

So yea that's partly why haven't been blogging, resisted the temptation to... but i can't stand it anymore...

So before I entertain you the readers about a very outdated update on cambridge, here's something i do often in class... yes, scandalizing people...

The weirdest 1 i heard of so far... funny, happened only after I left for england... anyway, what a big step for 6K, this is inter-class stuff...

Oh yes, last but not least, the usual pair of er, lovebirds? or just magnets... whichever, let them enjoy their "other half" company after being separated by continents and oceans for weeks... In particular, 1 of them "got sick of seeing me every day"...
Are they planning to send the whole class to London for a holiday, or are they planning for their own... honeymoon? Anyway, weird time to read maps... especially during chem lecture...

What are they doing up there? Man, how dense can the magnetic field lines be... This is... out of the world...

My Last Post In Cambridge

Hello :)

This shall be my last post here in UK. The computers in the comp room are super laggy.. Anyway, we are leaving Cambridge at 12.30pm on monday. Flight is at 6.30pm. Probably gonna stone in the airport for very long... and delays are definitely expected, based on how efficient Heathrow Airport is.

Bought a 1000 piece jigsaw and a 3000 piece jigsaw. No more space in luggage :( Gotta lug them onto the plane. It's a pity that we didnt manage to find the 6*6*6 and 7*7*7 cubes and megaminx here. They'll be available in September though.. so those interested can plan a trip to UK during the Sept hols. Well, at least i bought this Rubik's Twist/Snake thingy. You just twist and turn the polyhedra to form all sorts of weird shapes. Kinda regretted buying it.. Oh well, i think my younger sis will like it. Bought a sudoku cube as well. Surprisingly, it is even cheaper than a 2*2*2 cube. Havent figured out how to solve it..

I MISS 6K!!!!! Cant wait to see all of you in school on wednesday. Haha... lots of goodies for the class. I'm sure you all will like it!

Lots of stuff to tell everyone. A pity that i cant post it here... Just in case i offend ppl.. Haha. maybe we can have a mass gossip session after school on wednesday. We can munch on chips, chocs while we share our experience at Cambridge.

We went to London yesterday and walked from central London to northern London. It was so north of northern London that we went out of the area covered in the map... My feet are sore from all the walking.. The public transport is super expensive and rather inefficient. Shall share more details in school.

A bit reluctant to leave Cambridge.. Gonna miss the weather here. (definitely not the food--- breakfast is the same EVERYDAY) But at the same time, i also cant wait to return to Singapore.. Haha, i have already planned my dinner for tuesday and my mum will be cooking my favourite dishes :)

In the meantime, i will cherish my last 24++ hours in UK and not think about the mock spa on thursday as well as the waves lecture test..

WISHING UPON A STAR

The welfare rep saw 12 shooting stars on 12/08/08.

haha:) i went for some astronomy stuff yesterday and then the ppl were saying that there would be shooting stars yesterday night. most of us didnt intend to see the stars cos 1. it'll be very cold. 2. the person didnt sound convincing..

told some 6K-ers abt it during mass convo yesterday before dinner... Jiajun and Jeremy were encouraging me to see the shooting stars since it's not something that we get to see in Singapore.

anyway, the bio ppl had bio tutorial with Ms Soh and i was the only one left in the room. finished mugging thermal physics and waves alone.. it was already 10pm then and the rest were still not back.. decided to step into the balcony and try my luck..

waited in the cold for 5min... nothing happens. then suddenly... A SHOOTING STAR!!! haha felt very touched at the moment. quickly made a wish :) subsequently there were many more shooting stars :) the 7b girls returned not long after and the 4 of us spent 2 hrs star gazing until 12am.

we were really lucky.. other ppl cant see the sky from their balcony.. we had a very good view of the entire night sky.. DK can only see trees from his balcony.. haha

Jeremy recommended wearing 5 layers of clothing yesterday.. well.. i kinda heeded the advice cos it was really freezing.. wore 3 layers in total: one long sleeved shirt, one jacket and one windbreaker. i looked like kueh lapis :)

saw a total of 12 shooting stars... made the same wish all the time... wondering if it'll come through.. too bad no meteor shower. oh well the stars were gd enough. probably gonna try our luck tonight again. not sure if we'll be as lucky as yesterday.. but it was really fun.. great sense of satisfaction.

all right shall end here. once again, thanks Jiajun and Jeremy for strongly encouraging me ato see the shooting stars yesterday :) it was really spectacular!
