as promised. some picts.

but i realised they're all really blurry. one cuz that unknown guy keeps swaying around, and two cuz we're just some distance away.

heck. only posting the 2 viewable ones.

The Power of Randomity

So on this fine Saturday, a group of random people represented the school in the 49th National Inter-Schools Team Chess Championship.
The teams were:
(F) Hwa Chong Team 'A'
1. Lisa Chew (7B)
2. Jamie Pang
3. Chua Xin Rong (6H) (C)
4. Zheng Jiahui (6H)
5. Qiu Yonghui (A13)

Hwa Chong Team 'B'
1. Oh Kian Min (first aider)
2. Lim Kia Yee (6H) (astronomer)
3. Myself (bridge player)
4. Norvin Chan (A13) (judoka)
5. Marvin Chua (C) (chess & 'environmentalist'/'green clubber')

(50% SMTP! xD)

Due to some issues, the 'true' chess team with the pro players couldn't take part - hence, apart from the team captains, the rest weren't from chess at all (except maybe Jamie Pang, who used to be in chess in NYGH), but just a random collection of people, some of whom i only met today- Kian Min, Norvin (on Team B, that is).

The event took place at oddly, a primary school, Northland Primary School. (the toilets were, well erm, 'interesting' of course, prompting Norvin to want to take a photo of it)
Prizes available were:
a. Top 3 Teams in each category
b. Top 3 Teams in each Zone for each category
c. Top 3 Girls Team in Open, Secondary Open & Secondary U-14

This was of course, rather silly in certain aspects - some zones only had 1 participating school (eg. East: VJC), and there were only two girls' teams (NYGH & Xin Rong's team) in the Open category. Being such a haphazard collection of random people, we dared not try for being in the top 3 in the category, but aimed at a zonal position(6 schools or so in the West Zone); the girls, cheatingly, were already guranteed a "second-placed" girls' team at the very least.

Getting matched up against a relatively highly rated ACS(I) in the first game, all of us (ie team B), who were unrated, got owned 0-4. Team A got owned by some other team too. Next two rounds were slightly better, with 2-2 and 4-0. Then the break for lunch arrived. Went to a nearby coffeeshop to eat instead of at the school canteen, 'course a certain greedy someone complained about the small portions of food that the primary school canteen would probably provide (who later unabashedly asked for a routine 加饭). On the way back, Xin Rong ended up getting pestered by some random shopkeeper promoting some random product or something like that o.0.

Upon arrival back in the hall (the playing area) after some laxing in the canteen, we found that to our horror, a 互相残杀scenario was set in store for us. Team A was up against Team B! The match ups were:
Board 1: Kian Min vs Jamie Pang
Board 2: Kia Yee vs Xin Rong
Board 3: Myself vs Jiahui
Board 4: Norvin vs Yonghui (incidentally, i somehow get the impression that they are a couple or something lol)
of which Team B managed to win 3-1, losing only to Jamie Pang.

Up against RJC next, we were thrashed horribly again. The last round left was the crucial one. Whether or not we manage to get anything worthwhile for today's time & effort (except the experience of course, if ya want to sound politically correct xD) hinged upon the result. It was a rather sad event for me, as I lost for the same reason as I did for the previous two losses - poor handling of the endgame. What was worst that he had offered draw earlier, but thinking that my position was better (indeed it was slightly so), I declined, and proceeded to screw up my endgame. The team thus ended up 2-2. Team A got a BYE for the round (due to odd number of teams), thus getting 2 points. A first-placed girls' team award was in store as long as NYGH got 2 points or below against their opponent. They ended up getting 2.5 points, resulting in a draw with Team A. As to what the final result was, only the tiebreakers could tell.

A conversation that took place during Team A's BYE: "Who's Kia Yee?" "That girly-looking guy." Apparently Marvin got linked to girliness as well.

After some anxious anticipation, the awards ceremony began. Then came the deciding moment - the announcing of the West Zone results: "Third place - (forgot which school)."; having expected to clinch third, we became rather anxious - maybe by a stroke of luck, we got second? "Second place - JJC Team B." A wave of disappointment swept over us. I started feeling really bad about not having accepted the draw, as was Norvin about accidentally stalemating his opponent. If only we had not messed up like that, then perhaps we would have gotten something...

After a moment of mulling over regret & disappointment and Marvin, team captain, saying some encouraging words ... "First - Hwa Chong Team B!" It was a defining moment of shock & excitement - somehow, somehow, we had managed to clinch a totally unexpected first in the West Zone! Team A also won in the tiebreaker to clinch first-placed girls' team. So in a sense, Hwa Chong got double champs! xD

And so we departed, walking towards the interchange/mrt station, except for The Greedy one who went to consume dinner, after having asked umpteen times whether anyone wanted to "eat dinner outside". And so the exciting day concluded with a weird thing occuring on the bus for me. Randomly picking a seat and seating down, I soon felt gusts of hot air. After moments of investigating, the cause was established as ... a hole on the floor! I could see the road through the hole!

haha, hoho and hehe

I finally couldn't take seeing all those biased photos full of baseless assumptions and accusations every time i come to the blog any longer, so here's a post to flush it down!

The easiest way to fill up the space would probably be to copy and paste this:
1000 ways to waste your time, but since our SD frowns upon people who fritter lavish amounts of time away(oops), that probably isn't a very good idea. Instead, here are more random photos.

A picture says a thousand words, so i have posted a total of...8000 words! Even more than PW WR! I pwn!

Finally... from Jackie

It's strange how things have changed even though I vanished from the face of singapore for a mere 2 weeks and 4.5 hours... like getting a big welcome from the school in the form of demerit points, michael phelps winning 8 gold medals, world records and olympic records tumbling everywhere, and of course the extraordinary usain bolt, oh, and before i forget, all the bloody lectures and tutorials i missed...

So yea that's partly why haven't been blogging, resisted the temptation to... but i can't stand it anymore...

So before I entertain you the readers about a very outdated update on cambridge, here's something i do often in class... yes, scandalizing people...

The ever-so-open pair...

The weirdest 1 i heard of so far... funny, happened only after I left for england... anyway, what a big step for 6K, this is inter-class stuff...

Oh yes, last but not least, the usual pair of er, lovebirds? or just magnets... whichever, let them enjoy their "other half" company after being separated by continents and oceans for weeks... In particular, 1 of them "got sick of seeing me every day"...
Are they planning to send the whole class to London for a holiday, or are they planning for their own... honeymoon? Anyway, weird time to read maps... especially during chem lecture...

What are they doing up there? Man, how dense can the magnetic field lines be... This is... out of the world...

And a last 1, non-scandalous, for the people of 08S6H... assuming, only ASSUMING, they read 6K blog...

Mister G.K. Soo... aka HIMBO, or you can call him KK for short... heh dun kill me Guo Kai...

My Last Post In Cambridge

Hello :)

This shall be my last post here in UK. The computers in the comp room are super laggy.. Anyway, we are leaving Cambridge at 12.30pm on monday. Flight is at 6.30pm. Probably gonna stone in the airport for very long... and delays are definitely expected, based on how efficient Heathrow Airport is.

Bought a 1000 piece jigsaw and a 3000 piece jigsaw. No more space in luggage :( Gotta lug them onto the plane. It's a pity that we didnt manage to find the 6*6*6 and 7*7*7 cubes and megaminx here. They'll be available in September though.. so those interested can plan a trip to UK during the Sept hols. Well, at least i bought this Rubik's Twist/Snake thingy. You just twist and turn the polyhedra to form all sorts of weird shapes. Kinda regretted buying it.. Oh well, i think my younger sis will like it. Bought a sudoku cube as well. Surprisingly, it is even cheaper than a 2*2*2 cube. Havent figured out how to solve it..

I MISS 6K!!!!! Cant wait to see all of you in school on wednesday. Haha... lots of goodies for the class. I'm sure you all will like it!

Lots of stuff to tell everyone. A pity that i cant post it here... Just in case i offend ppl.. Haha. maybe we can have a mass gossip session after school on wednesday. We can munch on chips, chocs while we share our experience at Cambridge.

We went to London yesterday and walked from central London to northern London. It was so north of northern London that we went out of the area covered in the map... My feet are sore from all the walking.. The public transport is super expensive and rather inefficient. Shall share more details in school.

A bit reluctant to leave Cambridge.. Gonna miss the weather here. (definitely not the food--- breakfast is the same EVERYDAY) But at the same time, i also cant wait to return to Singapore.. Haha, i have already planned my dinner for tuesday and my mum will be cooking my favourite dishes :)

In the meantime, i will cherish my last 24++ hours in UK and not think about the mock spa on thursday as well as the waves lecture test..

Have fun ppl!!! Your welfare rep is returning soon!!!

You are my adversary, but you are not my enemy.
For your resistance gives me strength.
Your will gives me courage.
Your spirit ennobles me.
And though I aim to defeat you, should I succeed, I will not humiliate you.
Instead, I will honour you.
For without you, I am a lesser man.

WISHING UPON A STAR

The welfare rep saw 12 shooting stars on 12/08/08.

haha:) i went for some astronomy stuff yesterday and then the ppl were saying that there would be shooting stars yesterday night. most of us didnt intend to see the stars cos 1. it'll be very cold. 2. the person didnt sound convincing..

told some 6K-ers abt it during mass convo yesterday before dinner... Jiajun and Jeremy were encouraging me to see the shooting stars since it's not something that we get to see in Singapore.

anyway, the bio ppl had bio tutorial with Ms Soh and i was the only one left in the room. finished mugging thermal physics and waves alone.. it was already 10pm then and the rest were still not back.. decided to step into the balcony and try my luck..

waited in the cold for 5min... nothing happens. then suddenly... A SHOOTING STAR!!! haha felt very touched at the moment. quickly made a wish :) subsequently there were many more shooting stars :) the 7b girls returned not long after and the 4 of us spent 2 hrs star gazing until 12am.

we were really lucky.. other ppl cant see the sky from their balcony.. we had a very good view of the entire night sky.. DK can only see trees from his balcony.. haha

Jeremy recommended wearing 5 layers of clothing yesterday.. well.. i kinda heeded the advice cos it was really freezing.. wore 3 layers in total: one long sleeved shirt, one jacket and one windbreaker. i looked like kueh lapis :)

saw a total of 12 shooting stars... made the same wish all the time... wondering if it'll come through.. too bad no meteor shower. oh well the stars were gd enough. probably gonna try our luck tonight again. not sure if we'll be as lucky as yesterday.. but it was really fun.. great sense of satisfaction.

all right shall end here. once again, thanks Jiajun and Jeremy for strongly encouraging me ato see the shooting stars yesterday :) it was really spectacular!

shall blog in the midst of having a mass convo since the participants of the convo (SD, Fight, Sean, Jiajun) are either busy or away... no fun talking alone anyway... if not i will get niao-ed by ct rep again :(

so nothing much today.. took a photo with our 22 year old teacher... well he aint exactly the one who is teaching us. more of an assistant to the other 23 year old teacher.. this is the guy who is fairer than zhe wei :) (sorry Xinyi, i know u dont want ur pic to appear in the class blog.. but i dont have time to crop the pic.. i'm sure ur friends want to see ur photo..)

Hehheh he's not very tall... at least he is very cute :)

as usual, we decided to have something cheap for lunch... ended up eating bread we bought someday ago and jam and cheese which we took during breakfast.. had a picnic outside our classroom. near a pond and saw these ducks.. funny things happen when DK sees DucKs...

Dk: I want to eat duck rice
DK: i want to drink mushroom soup..

in the end, this was all we had for lunch: note that the ice cream box contained biscuits and not ice cream... so DK's logic of cubing aiding digestion...after lunch, CUBING TIME!
mr samuel tan sitting in the middle of nowhere...
Xinyi was saying that we aint supposed to sit on the bench cos in memory of a girl...
that's abt all... have fun!!

Er... And "Jack"

Hello a third time... haha 3 long posts in one day... and all overdue according to Singapore time. today's a nice day with lovely weather.. nothing better to do and we filmed 2 videos. hope u all will enjoy it...

Really pity 7B (and Yi Kun, for that matter)... that "sheep" touched my knee today, sucker... Then still not suay enough, night lecture sat with an RJ guy who didn't know how to close his legs either, ended up getting caressed again... perhaps his balls or tubes are too big... Funny, also not undergoing combustion (wish it could happen though), duno why need to expose to so much air... Crazy people, next time they must give some kind of EQ or mental check-up to everyone coming here... it's a disgrace sia...

had mass convo with Sean, Zhe Wei and Langston just now.. rather fun though we ended up talking lots of crap.. hee hee, for those who wish to participate in future mass convo, pls come online (at class blog) at around 7-9pm singapore time cos that's when we have lunch.. or at 11pm onwards (on MSN) when our lessons end...

feel really dumb today when i realised that i read my email wrongly.. cos when SD sent the email abt ad hoc event and getting ppl to reply him, the names of those who had ALREADY REPLIED him (including me) were in bold... i was really blur and thought that those were the names of those who hadnt replied him... and he sent me an sms to indicate my attendance.. so for the past few days, i keep trying to figure out why he didnt ask DK or Xinyi to indicate their attendance (they didnt receive his sms..).. felt really stupid... -_-

Funny, I thought she saw it... weird girl... must be lovesickness... Do something JL...

have fun mugging in singapore ppl :)

2nd video got cut off cos I think the camera cannot record so much... anyway it was something about SDs and undesirables... And sorry everyone, er, especially Yuhan (hehheh), cos we couldn't get Xinyi to show her face...

Yea, enjoy! We'll blog again soon=)

100808--Trip to London

Hello once again.. so this post will be about our trip to london on sunday.. we walked to the coach station at 8am, boarded the coach at 8.20 and reached london at around 11am... returned to cambridge at 11.50pm, walked and reached hostel at 12.30am. by the time we showered and went to bed, it was already 1am...

london wasnt as polluted as i expected, though there were many ppl smoking... the CONGESTION was really HORRIBLE. the bus literally inched forward while in london. it'll start moving for ten seconds and then stop for another ten to fifteen seconds before repeating the cycle... as a result, motion sickness slowly creeped in... :(

we went our ways once we alighted.. Xinyi went with 6h since they all wanted to sit in the London Eye. So in the end, we went together with Lisa, Xinyu and Yingzhen... SMTP outing yet again :) bought a map for 3 pounds when its supposed to be 2....stupid machine cheated me of one pound. oh well, we walked A LOT (didnt take the subway or bus) yesterday.. (today is still monday while i am typing). Xinyu, President of Ventures and Rovers, was a pro at map reading and guided us the entire trip.. hee hee.. and i wonder why the only guy in our grp didnt lead the way....

Eh wa lao, you all hogged the map lor... And I was looking out for other stuff like your safety (let alone cubes)... Besides since Xinyu so zai... might as well just let her get on with it...

we went from Victoria Street to Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and then Oxford Street. didnt find the cubes and megaminx (cos the girls sort of dao-ed Northern London, where we know got shop there have stock)... so here are some photos:

I'm not that short 1 actually... stupid Xinyu, insisted we take photo together... under the excuse of 6K reunion...

BUCKINGHAM PALACE.. didnt see Prince William or Harry :(
Buckingham? More like Boringham... that golden winged thingy of a statue looked more beautiful la...

Guess whoz the cameraman... AGAIN...

since we left the hostel early, breakfast was packed for us. couldnt eat on the coach so we ended up having brunch.. picnic at Green Park..thankfully we brought along some biscuits and granola bars... the weather was really cold.. Mr Samuel Tan sent me an SMS: 10 deg c, forecast rain in evening.. aiyoh, had we known earlier, we prob wouldnt have sat down in the park for lunch..

so after a not so hearty but definitely very cheap lunch (not to mention all the pigeons staring at us... 1 even perched in the grass, OMG), we continued our journey.. there's this super long walk in the park and to keep us going, we sang WE WILL GET THERE!!! still in the national day mood :)
My little idea of fun and motivation... since the lyrics of the chorus so fitting... Deep in my heart, I just know, right from the start, we will go, look where we are, we've come so far, AND THERE'S STILL A LONG LONG WAY TO GO, with all of my heart, bla bla bla, bla bla bla bla, bla bla bla, with family and friends, together we'll stand, and in the end, hand in hand, WE WILL GET THERE...

AND WE DID... that's why we're blogging from the comfort of our hostel...

all right here are some of the more random and lame stuff... we heard the police/ambulance sirens at least 7 TIMES in less than 24 hours in London... at different parts though.. kinda appreciated Singapore's safety at that time..

Not forgetting our GP lesson

Not forgetting our SMTP teacher in charge either...

we bought lots of food for 6K...

Poor things, they need seat belts for protection...

we went shopping the whole day.. started raining and we went to this departmental store to wait for the rain to stop... yea right, had to be THIS departmental store huh, the 1 which sells all the women's stuff... ended up shopping there.. Lisa and I helped DK pick stuff for his GF (man dun captalize it) as well... in the end, DK was the only one who bought stuff from that store. (yea yea thank you girls for picking the gift) The shops closed super early at 6am... had dinner at Pizza Hut in the end since it was one of the few stores that hadnt closed.. DK paid for our dinner (wow so gentlemanly...) and we walked back to Victoria Street..

Then SOMETHING VERY SCARY HAPPENED. we stopped to look at the map and figure out the correct orientation. so 4 girls standing in a circle, crowding behind the map, 1 guy standing not far away. SUDDENLY, some ang moh guys (drunkards to be exact) towered over us (the 4 girls) and said: WHAT ARE YOU LADIES DOING HERE? we got toally freaked out and all 4 of us walked away... DK walked away too... we walked for abt 50m before turning back to check that they werent following us... HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. that moment, i was really petrified.. thankfully we are safe (to my family reading this post, i am fine. dont worry. i prayed all the time) i think they were drunkards... like what Lisa said, next time, no matter what, we must not look lost... luckily there was a guy with us.. (actually did it really make a great diff?) anyway, end of horror story. dont want to think abt it anymore.

Hey told you liao, they stopped cos I glared at them, then they realized we had a guy watching over you 4 (well, literally watching over, in a sense, since i so tall)... I ready to fight if i had to ok... I kick ppl stomach very accurate 1... just carry my plastic bags for me while i do that... I was also checking to see if they came... Warnings from tall yellow lighthouses are very powerful... And I paid for everyone's dinner, for, er, compensation? Hehheh...

that's abt all.. sorry for the very long post.

Once again...

090808--- National Day in UK

Hello... Mui Suan shall post in black, I'll do mine in colour...

Havent posted for quite some time (been busy at night with all these... stuff...)... So before I let Mui Suan talk about celebrations... we were taught boring QM... ok la, not so boring... actually all these cheem physics very fun, helps you to talk more rubbish... For example, my lunch was "quantized" cos it came in packets of bread and cans of tuna... And to give excuses not to move your table forward when the teacher tells you to, try this: "Teacher, if I move the table, it will become smaller, then I no space to sit!!!"

Shall blog abt our National Day celebrations here in UK... so all the JCs celebrated together except RJC (extras). CJC was very very high.. they are the organisers i think (too free haha but we appreciate it)... so here are some pics:

i am very amused by the way they draw the Singapore flag.. ratio 3:2 but i think they got it the other way round...

ppl in red and black... we nearly formed our own flag...
Xinyu... forever trying to scandalize me and Mui Suan... wait till I get killed by CXY or JL... no more people to collect chem notes for 6K... Er, that's Howard carrying me for fun, and getting caught on a very WOLS camera...

Howard was very high that day.. we were singing songs in english and he deliberately sang in chinese. nothing better to do and he started imitating the 4O ppl such as shizhi, zhe wei, langston etc.. u all can try to figure out who he is imitating in the photo above...

I "accidentally" left a "sheep" out (the key phrase here is "left out", never mind if it was an accident or not) when we were suppposed to get into a circle to sing... sort of dived in to close the gap... whoops...

Food: dinner was supposed to be a barbecue.. but the definition of BBQ in UK is very different from the one in Singapore.. here when they say barbecue, they refer to the flavour not cooking method...
so we decided to have our own mini celebration in our room with more food and games :)

DK stayed till very "early" in our room that day....

Mui Suan played like... someone who ate too much... what do you call that... ai ya, just too high la... kept blurting out words that showed everyone who was whose partner but she didn't know it herself... then she'll laugh like mad, throw pillow at me, bla bla bla... I thought that if i tickled her foot at the same time, she'll kick out at my face and I'll end up like Sean (hehheh no offence Sean)...

HAPPY POST NATIONAL DAY!!! the rainy national day parade in Singapore must have been fun...
