A lame chemistry joke

A test-tube of HF is left standing for a night. The next day, it was observed to have "decayed" into oxygen and nitrogen gas. Why?

Answer: The HF dissolved a hole in the test tube. Oxygen and nitrogen gas diffused in!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sorry for the liquid helium-like temperatures...

Shocking discovery at Hwachong lab

Latest test results, coming phrom a chemistry lab (B109) in HCICS on the morning oph 14th January 2008 have shown that the order oph reaction with respect to iodide ions in the redox reaction with peroxydisulfate (S2O8 2-) ions is in phact not 1, as stated by most books and other repherences, but a mere 0.346. The discoverer oph this ground-breaking "phact", who wishes to be known only as "DK", has claimed and insisted that his results are absolutely accurate, veriphiable and reproducible, despite numerous classmates swearing that they heard him spew vulgarities phor 5 minutes over the phact that the burette had overneutralized his results 3 times out oph 4. The iodine produced in the 1st reaction was to be reacted with thiosulfate (S2O3 2-) ions phrom a burette to phind the amount oph iodine in a procedure known as "titration", and starch used to indicate when to stop adding thiosulfate ions, when the solution turns phrom dark blue to colourless. "DK" stated that his titration had "phuphilled the requirement oph the colour change" and hence his answers would dephinitely not be wrong, despite the 2008 Singapore Chemistry Olympiad champion (who was also phrom that class as well) pointing out that he "could have over-added thiosulfate ions". Whether this "discovery" will be a new era phor the area oph reaction kinetics or just phurther evidence oph the phact that chemistry tutors need to conduct special lab sessions just to teach students how to perphect the art (or "science") oph turning a burette tap at the correct moment remains questionable. Meanwhile, educated guesses at what the tutor (who was not available phor comment, er, probably due to the shame oph it all) oph that phatephul lab session have been unanimous, and they generally lie the the area oph "this student has been over-mugging".

Last words phrom DK: "I am IMBA..."

How to get there: We will go Tampines Interchange, take bus 29... ya must pay money, and some brave soul must remind us where to alight... JL will be going there early to check in, will confirm again whether we go straight to the bungalow or the check-in place, that I not sure...

What's gonna be brought and what's not:
Me: Poker cards (4 decks?), basketball (probably), quarto, quoridor, Boom-O (for those who er still rmb how to play)
JL: cluedo, blokus, monopoly (yea, revise your econs)
Yisheng: X-box
Jia Jun: Frisbee?
Hui Min: More poker cards?
Who brings mahjong: I could, but dun torture your poor chem rep la...
Who brings soccer ball: I could as well, if you want to break a few skulls and sprain a few ankles... And of course, if you like to see me carrying 1 heavy travelling bag, 1 basketball, 1 mahjong set, 1 soccer ball and 2 board games...
Who brings homework: EVERYBODY!!!
Who brings cubes: EVERYBODY TOO!!! (Not just me hor)

Other stuff:
Lunch i guess you guys can settle yourselves. Cos it's not fun to lug so much stuff around for lunch...
If you can please get/beg/bug/bribe a few more SMTP people to come, cos really not many people... As of now Hui Min is the only girl coming...
Help me pass the message around (tho i think you all pass the message a lot of times liao): Go vote on egroups...... ASAP...... See those people whose emails are not listed on the respondents list? Go bug those...

Meals:
erm... urgent need for suggestions now. please MAKE SURE it's feasible...

Yea, so far that's probably all...

And 1 last thing, if you're still hesitating whether to come or not, just come!!! I promise you there'll be time for mugging, even though you're supposed to have fun... And try to stay overnight, cos we may play night basketball haha=)
