11th National Olympiad in Informatics

5th April 2008. What significance does this day have? It be the 11th NOI, held at some miscellaneous computer laboratories at the 8th(!) floor of the School of Computing building. Apparently, they decided to put it back to the afternoon, cus according to joel, when they held the 10th NOI in the mornin last year, a lotta ppl were late....so registration this year started at the odd time of 12:45pm - this is probably where our weird lunchtimes due to our timetable this year came in handy!

Upon arrival, I ran into Jon Lee at the bus-stop lol, and i think i might've caught a glimpse of a certain big lorry...xD. Then climbed up 3 floors to LT34, got some nice souvenirs from teh registration counter - a laptop bag (i think xD) containing a T-shirt, a whole pad of NUS foolscap, laser pointer(i think, or a weird torch mabbe?), and not to forget advertising gimmicks for their School of Computing, of course.

Then, like 12:55 liddat, Joel came. Next to registration booth there got some small buffet of snacks, so Joel lamented that he had eaten lunch already. But, not commenting further, it was inevitable that the temptation of food, the only thing generating force fields powerful enough to attract him, resulted in him picking up quite some food anyways.

Lol, write so much, still never say who participated. I must say that 'tis once again 6K land =). Out of the five participants, four are from 6K! Me, Joel, Zhao Dan, and our dear 20-year old senior Gu Siyuan. That fifth guy is Sun Shuo, whom i think is from 6A...and disliked by a certain monkey...anyways, quite a number of ppl brought along thick wads of notes or joel-sized reference books, especially one of the High School side juniors...the thick wad of papers he was carrying could match all of Jared Quek's notes combined! Made me and Joel look at our few sheets of paper and feel zibei lol. (the comp be open-book)

So the comp started at approx 2:20 and ended at 6:20 - 4 hrs to do 6 tasks. During the comp that time got a food station outside, where ya're free to go to eat whenever ya want to. Apparently, Joel spent the last half an hr of the comp last year eating...but this year, (i think) i didn't see him go out for food at all! Woah, well done Joel, ya're on your way to pushing Langston up to the 'mass' of the class! This year's tasks, though admitted difficult (made me and joel depressed=(), didn't have any pathfinding algorithms, like last year, so those ppl who brought in those thick algorithm books and lots of notes...i really pity them...xD. Anyways, i think that if wei zhong is the class's loudest cuber (speaking of which, i brought his cube for entertainment :p), then i must be the loudest typer lol, i was typing away so furiously & running my fingers through the keyboard that i think it kinda made quite a bit of noise, but hey, it breaks the monotony, and i don't think i was the only one making so much typing noise...

Results will only be out at the prize givin ceremony next sat, though i think i kinda screwed up =(
Well, I can only hope for the best....

And one last note: Programming is really very logic-based and mathematical...so i would like to echo joel in getting a certain monkey to perhaps spend his time on it rather than MAC :)
